Cambodia and Russia Forge Partnership to Enhance Legal Cooperation

Phnom Penh: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Koeut Rith hosted a meeting with Mr. Anatoly Borovik, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and his delegation on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Ministry of Justice. The discussions centered on establishing a joint mechanism between the Ministry of Justice and the Russian Embassy in Cambodia to streamline legal cooperation and enhance law enforcement effectiveness.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Koeut Rith and Ambassador Anatoly Borovik underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Cambodia and Russia, particularly in the realm of legislation. They highlighted the significant progress achieved in implementing the Treaty on the Transfer of Prisoners between the two nations, which complements existing bilateral agreements such as the extradition treaty and the treaty on legal mutual assistance in criminal matters. These agreements aim to deepen legal cooperation and facilitate the exchange of information and expertise in law enforcement.

This initiative reflects the commitment of both countries to promoting a robust legal framework and fostering mutual understanding and cooperation in the field of justice.

The discussions concluded with a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation in the legal sphere.
